In 1853, encouraged by an actor friend of his, Charles Dickens started performing public readings of A Christmas Carol. These became hugely popular. The biggest theatres around Britain and America selling out, and people queuing through the night just to get a ticket. Performed by Rupert Mason as Charles Dickens, this one-man adaptation is inspired by these legendary readings.
Using Dickens’ own text, with an atmospheric sound design, audiences are transported through the streets of Victorian London to the chilling visits of the ghost of Jacob Marley and the Spirits of Christmases Past, Present and Yet to Come. By turns funny, haunting and deeply moving, this performance offers a chance to experience one of the greatest Christmas stories ever written as it was originally performed.
